BOTOX Cosmetic can target signs of aging in various areas of your face...

What Is BOTOX?

BOTOX Cosmetic contains botulinum toxin, a protein that can temporarily paralyze facial muscles that cause lines and wrinkles to develop. Originally approved by the FDA in the late 1980s, BOTOX is used to treat a wide range of medical concerns, as well as the cosmetic effects of aging.

This injectable functions by blocking the signal from the nerves to the muscles. Since the injected muscle can no longer tighten completely, the wrinkles in the area relax for a softer, more youthful look.

Wondering whether BOTOX treatment can help you?

BOTOX Cosmetic Treats Wrinkles Caused by Muscle Movement

Virtually any lines or wrinkles which have formed due to facial expressions can improve with the use of botulinum toxin. Patients often wish to reduce the depth of the crease between their eyebrows or smooth the appearance of smile lines around the mouth. Another common complaint is the fine lines that radiate from the corners of the eyes, often referred to as crow's feet. All of these issues can benefit from BOTOX treatment.

However, if you wish to address wrinkles caused by sun damage or gravity, BOTOX may not be the right option for you. Our team may recommend one of the other available treatments.

Can anyone receive BOTOX injections?

We Do Not Recommend This Injectable for Patients Who:

Are Pregnant or Breastfeeding

The effects of botulinum toxin are unknown for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, so it is best to wait until you have finished breastfeeding to undergo BOTOX treatment.

Are Under 18

BOTOX Cosmetic is not available for patients who are underage.

Have a Neurological Disease

Make sure to discuss all medical conditions with our team during your BOTOX consultation. Muscle or nerve conditions can increase the risk of complications from this treatment.

But I'm nervous about injections...

Does BOTOX Cosmetic Hurt?

At Back to 30, serving Simpsonville and surrounding areas, we use very small needles to inject BOTOX Cosmetic. Most patients notice little to no discomfort during the procedure.

We can also numb the treatment area with an anesthetic or a cold pack to ensure your comfort.

You may experience some minor redness, pain, or bruising shortly after the injections. However, these side effects should fade within a few days.

Getting Ready for Your BOTOX Appointment

There are several things you can do in the weeks leading up to your BOTOX treatment to reduce the chance of side effects. About two weeks before your session, stop taking any medications which can thin your blood, including:

  • Aspirin
  • Ibuprofen
  • Excedrin
  • Motrin
  • Ginkgo Biloba
  • Ginseng
  • Flax Oil
  • Fish Oil
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin E

If you need to manage pain, Tylenol is a good alternative to anti-inflammatories. You should also avoid drinking alcohol in the week before your appointment

Knowing what to expect during treatment can help you feel prepared...

BOTOX Cosmetic Is a  Quick, In-Office Procedure

Consultation

You will first meet with one of our medical practitioners for a consultation to determine the areas you would like to target

Anesthesia

For most patients, BOTOX Cosmetic is a relatively painless treatment. However, we can provide an anesthetic to further ensure your comfort.

Injections

One of our highly trained medical practitioners will then inject the solution into the appropriate muscles using a very thin needle.

The Least Painful Botox Treatment I Have Ever Had

“I was extremely impressed with everyone in your office today... She took the time to listen to what I thought I needed and then she gave me her honest opinion, took before pictures, and then made all these marks where she suggested I get injections. Is was the least painful Botox treatment I have ever had! ...LOVED LOVED LOVED everyone there and just wanted to say THANK YOU!“

Most patients need little to no downtime but...

Take Care during the First 24 Hours to Protect Your Results

You can return to work and other normal daily activities immediately following the procedure. However, you should lay down for at least an hour after the procedure or rub the treated area for at least 12 hours. Putting too much pressure on the treatment site can affect your results.

We also recommend that you avoid strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours after your appointment.

Seeing your full results may take some time...

Maintaining the Effects of Your BOTOX Treatment

BOTOX Cosmetic is a temporary solution to wrinkles, frown lines, and other signs of aging. Taking certain steps after your injectable treatment can help you get the most out of your investment:

  • Reduce Sun Exposure: Using sunscreen and protecting your skin against UV rays may help maintain the effects of your treatment.
  • Take Care of Your Skin: Moisturizing your skin daily can help keep it plump and firm until your next session.
  • Eat Right: Drink plenty of water and eat foods which supports the health of your skin. You should also avoid processed and packaged foods.
  • Minimize Stress: High stress levels can enhance common signs of aging. Finding ways to decrease stress in your life could improve the life of your BOTOX results.

Regular maintenance treatments at our Back to 30 centers can also help extend the life of your results. Over time, BOTOX Cosmetic can start to train the targeted muscles, helping them respond more effectively to the botulinum toxin.

Does BOTOX have side effects?

Most Concerns Are Minor and Temporary

Bruising

Temporary bruising at the injection sites is the most common side effect of treatment with botulinum toxin.

Headaches

While rare, some patients do report headaches after BOTOX. These typically end within 24 to 48 hours.

Eyelid Drooping

Since botulinum toxin paralyzes muscles, there is a very small chance of developing a drooping eyelid. This issue typically ends within three weeks.

Flu-Like Symptoms

You could develop some flu-like sensations after your appointment, including fatigue, upset stomach, or mild nausea.
